2023: In the warmest October on record, countless restaurant heaters lit up Vienna's city center with subtle red light to warm the apparently freezing guests. Vienna is different - in many cities these radiant heaters are banned.

The Christmas lighting, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Vienna, is used in Vienna's shopping streets since mid-November to increase the desire to shop. Unfortunately, the opportunity was missed to remind people with special lightening objects of sustainability and to encourage reflection in a year of horrible crises.

However, climate activists took action in a new, quiet way: they placed a virtual globe with desert-like reddened land masses reminiscent of climate change between the incentives for the Christmas shopping frenzy and distribute the associated photos and videos via the Internet.

In some places, the two types of Christmas decorations have been symbiotically linked: Calls to buy combined with those for sustainability and contemplation. Can economy and ecology be combined after all?
